Background in major consulting firms

Before setting up Halkin Consulting, Ron Crompton spent 10 years as a partner in the Travel and Transportation Group of Mercer Management Consulting, the international strategy and general management consulting firm.

During his time at Mercer, he advised private and public sector clients in most major transport sectors, including rail, logistics, shipping and aviation, in the UK, Germany, Netherlands, France, Eastern Europe, Australia, China and South Africa.

He led the Travel and Transportation Group's practice in European financial transactions, providing support to bidders in M+A, privatisations, concessions, leasing and project finance. He also spent 3-4 years as part of a three partner team developing Mercer's business in South Africa.

Prior to Mercer, Ron Crompton was with McKinsey & Co in London, New York and Melbourne, and worked in industry as Finance and Logistics director, M+A Director and Managing Director of various UK subsidiaries of a major consumer goods company. He also helped establish a small consulting firm specializing in acquisition search and due diligence in consumer goods. Early in his career he worked for BP in their strategy department, specialising in shipping and European logistics.

He has a first degree in economics from Bristol University, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
