Market entry strategy. For an Asian transport company, developed a strategy to enter the European market. The work included in-depth analysis of the five most attractive markets, identifying the key operating/regulatory issues and potential partners/acquisitions.Growth strategy. For a European transport equipment manufacturer, developed a growth strategy to double the business. The work included a global manufacturing strategy, and expansion into downstream opportunities in product services, maintenance and specialist services.
Growth/acquisition strategy. Developed growth and acquisition strategies for a range of transport companies, including:
- A rail infrastructure services company to enter the UK market
- An international parcel carrier to expand its pan-European services
- A liner shipping company, to maximize shareholder value from its existing business and develop a major new business
- A rail rolling stock leasing company to expand internationally
- A passenger rail operator to enter continental European markets
- A global ship services business, to improve marketing and targeting of major customers
Maximising shareholder value. For a European liner shipping company, developed a strategy to maximize shareholder value from its core business, re-direct its investments, and develop a major new business
IPO strategy. Advised the leading Chinese logistics carrier on changes in strategy and organisation to prepare for international competition and a stockmarket listing.
National transport strategy. Led a consulting team to develop a national transport strategy for South Africa (Moving South Africa). The strategy covered freight, urban and rural passenger transport, and road, rail, maritime and air, with the objective of creating a globally competitive transport system by the year 2020.
